The following is a brief synopsis of the activities of the Isle of
Palms Police Department during the month of: MARCH 2006

Patrol
-
March 1,
2006 An officer stopped a vehicle on Palm Boulevard
near the connector for an equipment violation and while speaking
with the driver, it was determined that he had a suspended license.
It was also determined that this was the fourth offense of driving
while suspended. He was taken into custody and charged with DUS 4th,
and Habitual Offender.

March 1,
2006 Officers assisted a Charleston County Constable
in evicting persons from a rental unit on Palm Boulevard. After the
eviction was complete and locks were changed the owners determined
that the tenants had removed approximately $950 worth of appliances
from the residence. When an Investigator questioned the tenant, she
denied having taken the items and provided a story proven to be
incorrect. The items were located and the female tenant was charged
with Breach of Trust.

March 3,
2006 A resident of Oak Harbor Lane reported a theft of
a laptop computer and software from his residence. The suspect was
determined to be the former boyfriend of the homeowner’s daughter,
who had previously been placed on trespass notice. The computer and
software, valued at $2,349 was recovered at a local pawnshop having
been pawned by the suspect listed. The suspect was located and
charged with Burglary 3rd degree and Grand Larceny.

March 3,
2006 Officers responded to a residence on Yacht Harbor
Court where the sister of a female with suicidal tendencies was in
an extremely depressed state. The officers received information,
which was confirmed that she had recently attempted to purchase a
handgun at a local pawnshop for the purpose of committing suicide.
First Responders arrived and checked the immediate medical condition
of the person, who voluntarily agreed to go to the hospital for
observation.

March 4,
2006 Just after midnight an officer on patrol observed
a car occupied by four black subjects that was traveling well below
the posted speed limit on Palm Boulevard. The officer then observed
the vehicle turn onto 22nd Avenue then pull in a driveway
and turn it’s lights out. The officer stopped and observed that no
one exited the vehicle. The officer then pulled behind the vehicle
and immediately detected the odor of burning marijuana. When a
backup officer arrived the four occupants were removed from the
vehicle, where an officer immediately observed a quantity of drug
paraphernalia. A male passenger sitting in the back seat was found
to be in possession of a clear plastic bag containing marijuana,
valued at approximately $50, a clear plastic bag containing 11
pieces of crack cocaine, valued at approximately $370, and a plastic
bag containing three smaller bags of powder cocaine, valued at
approximately $700. That person was immediately taken into custody
and charged with Simple Possession of Marijuana, Possession with the
Intent to Distribute Cocaine, and Possession with the Intent to
Distribute Crack Cocaine. The other occupants of the vehicle were
allowed to leave the area.

March 5,
2006 An officer traveling on Highway 526 to work,
stopped on the shoulder of the road to assist a female pedestrian
carrying a grocery bag. When the officer stopped to speak with the
female she stated that she wanted to go to the city, and the officer
advised her that she was traveling in the wrong direction. While the
officer sat in his vehicle attempting to identify her, she abruptly
turned and deliberately jumped over the side of the bridge. The
officer had communications notify the appropriate police and rescue
personnel for assistance. The officer then identified two witnesses
and had them stay in the area to obtain statements. An investigation
by the North Charleston Police Department indicated that the woman
was listed as a missing person from the state of Michigan. The woman
sustained serious injuries but will survive.

March 6,
2006 At approximately 1 A.M., officers responded to an
Ocean Boulevard residence to investigate a report of loud music.
When officers went to the front entrance, they observed many
subjects present and a large amount of beer cans and bottles strewn
about. Fourteen subjects present were determined to be under the age
of twenty-one and were all charged with Underage Possession of Beer.
An adult present admitted that he purchased the alcohol and was
charged with Transfer of Beer to a Minor. All parties present were
visiting from the University of Richmond.

March 8,
2006 Officer’s responded to a Charleston Boulevard
residence for a reported loud domestic dispute. The officers
confirmed that a couple had been arguing loudly and no sign of
physical assault was present. One officer transported the female
subject involved to another location for the night to quell the
situation.

March 9,
2006 Two officers patrolling the Sea Cabins Pier
observed four subjects at the end of the pier and advised them that
they were trespassing unless they were staying at Sea Cabins. One
subject present was found to be in possession of a quantity of
marijuana, and was charged with Simple Possession of Marijuana.

March 10, 2006
While on patrol on Waterway Boulevard at 24th Avenue, an
officer stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation. The officer
determined that the driver of the vehicle had a suspended license.
After being taken into custody, the officer located a quantity of
marijuana in the glove compartment. The driver and passenger both
denied ownership of the marijuana so both were charged with Simple
Possession of Marijuana and the driver with the additional charge of
DUS.

March 13, 2006 An
officer on patrol on the connector stopped a vehicle for an
equipment violation and while speaking to the driver immediately
detected the odor of freshly burned marijuana. Due to the smell of
marijuana, the vehicle was searched and a plastic bag containing
approximately $200 worth of marijuana was located in the console of
the car. The driver was charged with Simple Possession of Marijuana.

March 14, 2006 An
officer followed a vehicle that was operating erratically and
eventually stopped it on the connector. While speaking to the driver
he admitted that he had been drinking beer and wine, but he refused
to take any Field Sobriety Tests. He was taken into custody and
later also refused to submit to a Datamaster Test. He was charged
with DUI and transported to the detention center.

March 18, 2006 An
officer was dispatched to the parking lot of a JC Long Boulevard
business regarding a welfare check on a subject sleeping in a
vehicle there. The subject was awakened and determined to be
extremely intoxicated. Numerous attempts to were made to have
someone pick the subject up and remove him from the area. The
subject was eventually taken into custody and charged with Public
Intoxication.

March 19, 2006 A
vehicle was stopped on Palm Boulevard near 49th Avenue
for speeding, and while speaking with the driver the officer noted
that he was overly nervous and volunteered much more information
than requested. The officer received consent to search the vehicle
and located a .38 caliber Smith & Wesson revolver under the drivers
seat. The driver was taken into custody and charged with Unlawful
Carrying of a Handgun.

March 19, 2006
Officers responded to a Charleston Boulevard residence to
investigate a complaint of loud music. The officers went to the
front door and observed numerous people quickly leaving the area
with beer in their hands. Six persons present were under the age of
twenty-one and were charged with Underage Possession of Beer. One
person present over twenty-one was charged with Transfer of Beer to
a Minor.

March 21, 2006 An
officer stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation and determined
that the passenger had an unpaid traffic citation. The passenger was
taken into custody and while conducting a pre-tow inventory of the
vehicle discovered a clear plastic bag of cocaine. Also located in
the vehicle was a 9mm Hi Point automatic pistol under the driver’s
seat and an open bottle of Rum. The driver was charged with Broken
Seal of Liquor in a Vehicle, Possession of Cocaine, and Unlawful
Carrying of a Handgun. The passenger was charged with Broken Seal of
Liquor in a Vehicle, NRVC, and Possession of Cocaine.

March 26, 2006 An
officer stopped a vehicle for a license plate violation and while
speaking to the driver observed that his eyes were bloodshot and
glassy. When the driver exited the vehicle, the officer observed
drug paraphernalia in plain view in the floor of the vehicle. A
quantity of marijuana was located on the driver’s person and he was
charged with Simple Possession of Marijuana.

March 27, 2006 A
Sullivan’s Island Police Officer requested that one of our officers
provide a Datamaster Operator for a subject that he had in custody.
The test was administered and the violator registered a .18% alcohol
level.

March 28, 2006 An
officer stopped a speeding vehicle on Palm Boulevard and while
speaking with the seventeen year old driver detected a strong odor
of alcohol. The driver denied that he had been drinking and agreed
to perform several Field Sobriety Tests. He later took a Datamaster
Test and registered a .07% alcohol content. Due to his age he was
arrested for Zero Tolerance/Under Age 21 Alcohol Concentration, and
his license was immediately suspended, and he was released to a
family member.

March 29, 2006 A
vehicle was stopped for speeding on the connector and while speaking
with the driver determined that he did not have his license with him
and after investigating further, determined that he had four prior
convictions of driving under suspension. Two passengers in the
vehicle were determined to have suspended licenses for failure to
pay traffic tickets. The driver was charged with DUS 5th
offense, Speeding, No Proof of Ownership, and No Proof of Insurance.
Both passengers were charged with multiple charges of NRVC.

March 31, 2006 At
approximately 2 P.M. a female subject reported that she was hit in
the back of her head and face by three known female assailants which
she believes was witnessed by four unknown persons. The victim
sustained a slight laceration above her eye and several to the back
of her neck. She believes that she was attacked about something that
was said about one of the suspects at school. All parties involved
are students at Burke High School. An Investigator has been assigned
the case, and arrests are expected.

March 31, 2006 An
officer on patrol observed a vehicle driving erratically and
followed the vehicle to record a tracking history on videotape. The
vehicle was stopped on Palm Boulevard near 45th Avenue,
after the vehicle drove off of the right hand side of the road near
42nd Avenue. The officer immediately detected a strong
odor of alcohol from within the vehicle and detected slurred speech
while speaking with the driver. After failing several Field Sobriety
Tests, the twenty-one year old female was taken into custody. A
quantity of marijuana was also found in her purse subsequent to
arrest. When administered the Datamaster Test, the driver registered
a .15% alcohol level. She was charged with DUI, and Simple
Possession of Marijuana.

March 1,
2006 Mayor Sottile received a letter of
appreciation from a female resident to advise him of the recent
actions of Patrolman McCrodden in the successful resolution to
trespassers on her property.

March 17,
2006 A resident sent a letter of appreciation to the
police department to compliment Corporal Erickson and PFC Wooley for
their efficient handling of a noisy party at a rental unit next to
his residence on Sand Dollar Drive.

March 27,
2006 A woman who was stopped by Patrol Officer S.
Baldrick for a traffic violation wrote a letter of appreciation to
the police department to recognize her for her professionalism,
dedication, and her great attitude in handling her situation.

March 31,
2006 Patrol Officer A. Snelwar graduated from the South
Carolina Criminal Justice Academy in Columbia, South Carolina. Chief
Buckhannon and Lieutenant Wright attended the ceremony.

March 31,
2006 For the month of March, officers on patrol
discovered one business with open or unsecured doors. A total of ten
Victim of Crime Forms were issued to business or property owners for
various violations noted by officers on patrol.
Patrol
January
1, 2006 At approximately 3 a.m., officers responded to a unit on
Palmetto Drive in Wild Dunes, where an assault of a female at that
location had been reported. Information provided stated that the
suspect had just left and a description of the vehicle was broadcast.
One responding officer observed the suspect vehicle on Palmetto Drive
and stopped it. Another officer went to the incident location to
gather more information. It was determined that the male suspect had
argued with the female victim and during the argument, the female
sustained an injury to her face. The suspect was taken into custody
and charged with Simple Assault. The victim was transported by
EMS to a local and treated for a broken nose.
January 2, 2006 An officer responded to a
residence on
Hidden Green Lane,
where a male subject was reported to have passed away. Fire Department
personnel also responded to provide medical attention. The Deputy
Coroner ruled the death to be of natural causes.
January 3, 2006 A subject building a home on
Ocean Boulevard
reported that a newly installed double pane picture window had been
shattered. Evidence present indicated that several pellets from a BB
Gun caused the damage. An Investigator was assigned and determined
that several un-chaperoned teenagers had recently stayed at the
residence adjacent to the home under construction. The Investigator
identified all teenagers and identified the party responsible for the
damage. The person responsible became uncooperative when confronted
and was charged with Malicious Damage to Property and Hindering.
January 5, 2006 At approximately
4 p.m., officers responded to a residence on
27th
Avenue regarding a family disturbance. The officers
determined that no visible evidence of assault was present and advised
both parties of their legal options. At approximately
10:30
p.m., officers returned to the same residence, where the previous
situation had escalated to a violent level. The female now reported
that while she was asleep on the couch, her husband entered the
residence and without provocation struck her in her face with a closed
fist, then dragged her down the hallway to the bedroom and forcibly
had sexual relations with her. She later escaped the residence by
sneaking out of the side bathroom door. An Investigator responded and
processed the residence for evidence. The male suspect was taken into
custody and charged with Criminal Domestic Violence of a High and
Aggravated Nature and Criminal Sexual Conduct 1st Degree.
January 5, 2006 An officer responded to a
residence on
Hartnett Boulevard
where parents reported their twelve year old son had runaway by
exiting the residence through a second story window after being
disciplined. An officer located the juvenile less than ninety minutes
later on 24th Avenue and returned him to his parents.
January 6, 2006 A resident of Cameron Boulevard
reported her vehicle stolen, and believed that her forty-seven year
old son was responsible. The vehicle was returned the following day
and the victim did not wish to pursue criminal charges.
January 6, 2006 Officers responded to a
residence on
Wills Way,
where someone had called 911 and then hung-up the telephone. The
officers determined that the couple had been having a domestic dispute
over an ex-husbands failure to pick-up children for visitation. The
male party involved left the residence for the evening to defuse the
situation.
January 7, 2006 Just after midnight, two
officers responded to a front beach establishment where a fight was
reported to be in progress. When the officers arrived, an employee
stated that he had requested that two male subjects leave the
premises, at which time one subject took a swing at the employee while
the other pushed him. The employee led them out the front entranceway,
only to have them return and re-enter at the rear entrance and again
assault the employee. Both subjects were taken into custody where one
was charged with Simple Assault and the other with Disorderly Conduct.
January 8, 2006 While on patrol of the front
beach area, an officer observed a female subject walking on the
sidewalk yelling loud obscenities. When the officer investigated and
attempted to speak to the subject, she became even more agitated and
walked away from the officer. A companion present was attempting to
quiet his friend but was unsuccessful in doing so. After repeated
instructions to calm down, the subject was taken into custody and
charged with Disorderly Conduct.
January 8, 2006 At the request of Sullivan’s
Island Police Department, one of our officers performed a Datamaster
Test for a subject that they had arrested for DUI.
January 8, 2006 An officer stopped a vehicle on
palm Boulevard near 4th Avenue for crossing the double line into the oncoming
path of the officers vehicle. When the officer turned around and
caught up to the vehicle, the vehicle had crossed the intersection of
14th Avenue at
Palm
Boulevard and drove northbound in the southbound lane of traffic. When
stopped, the driver was determined to be on a learner’s permit, and
did not have it in his possession. A juvenile present in the vehicle
was found to be in possession of a quantity of marijuana and was taken
into custody and later released to a parent. He was charged with
Simple Possession of Marijuana, which will be handled in Family Court.
The driver was charged for his traffic infractions.
January 9, 2006 Officers responded to a Carolina
Boulevard residence where a female at that location reported a
domestic disturbance with her former boyfriend. During the argument,
the boyfriend had broken several glass figurines and had fled prior to
the officer’s arrival. The female stated that she is not in fear for
her safety, since there was no physical altercation, but wished to
document the incident.
January 12, 2006 A Mount Pleasant police officer
had followed a vehicle across the connector for a traffic violation
and wasn’t able to stop the vehicle until it reached a Palm Boulevard
convenience store. An Isle of Palms officer responded to assist the
officer who was unable to obtain any personal information on the
driver, who refused to cooperate. The driver was observed to have a
small blue plastic baggy hidden in his mouth and refused to spit the
item out when ordered by police officers. While placing the driver
under arrest, the subject resisted and was sprayed with OC Spray by
the Mount Pleasant officer. The subject swallowed the plastic bag and
was taken to the hospital for evaluation and clearance to be jailed.
He was charged by the Mount Pleasant Police Department.
January 13, 2006 An officer stopped a vehicle for
speeding on
Palm Boulevard,
near 48th Avenue and after checking the drivers license,
determined that he was wanted by the North Charleston Police
Department on a Bench Warrant, for Failure to Appear at a scheduled
court appearance. He was taken into custody and turned over to a
North Charleston police officer for their outstanding arrest warrant.
January 15, 2006 After stopping a vehicle for
speeding on the connector, the officer immediately detected an odor of
alcohol from within the vehicle. After requesting the driver to exit
the vehicle, he was found to be in possession of a quantity of
marijuana. The driver received a Warning Ticket for speeding and was
charged with Simple Possession of Marijuana.
January 21, 2006 Just after midnight, an officer
stopped a vehicle for speeding near Breach Inlet and while speaking
with the driver determined that he did not have his license with him.
All three occupants of the vehicle were determined to be juveniles and
in possession of two boxes of unopened cans of beer. The driver was
charged with Speeding and all three were charged with Minor in
Possession of Alcohol. They were released to the custody of parents
and their case will be handled in Family Court.
January 21, 2006 An officer assisting another
officer on a traffic stop on Palm Boulevard, observed a canister of
what appeared to be marijuana lying in the open glove compartment of
the vehicle. A passenger in the vehicle claimed ownership and was
taken into custody and charged with Simple Possession of Marijuana.
January 21, 2006 At approximately 4 a.m., an officer observed a vehicle parked near the

Avenue beach access path. The officer investigated
and located four subjects sleeping on the beach in sleeping bags.
While checking the subjects for identification, a quantity of drug
paraphernalia was observed. One subject was found to be in possession
of a quantity of marijuana. That person was charged with Simple
Possession of Marijuana and all were ordered to leave the beach and
advised accordingly.
January 21, 2006 A resident of Oak Harbor
Boulevard reported that his vehicle was missing and he believed that
his nineteen year old daughter was responsible. He advised that he
wanted to prosecute if and when she and or the vehicle were located.
The vehicle was returned several days later when the owner then
decided not to prosecute his daughter.
January 23, 2006 A male resident of Mount Pleasant
became abusive and belligerent while listening to testimony from an
officer during a hearing in Municipal Court. The subject was taken
into custody at the order of Magistrate Harper for Contempt of Court,
while being led from the courtroom he made two more loud verbal
outbursts in the courtroom, which prompted the Magistrate to add two
counts of contempt on the subject. The Magistrate sentenced the
subject to 30 days in jail for each of 3 counts of Contempt of Court.
The following day, at the request of the Magistrate, he was ordered by
a Probate Judge to be committed to a local hospital for psychiatric
treatment.
January 26, 2006 At the request of the Sullivan’s
Island Police Department, an Isle of Palms officer administered a
Datamaster Test to a subject they had arrested for DUI.
January 26, 2006 An officer investigated two
vehicles in the street on Carolina Boulevard, where subjects in one
vehicle was attempting to tow another. While checking the
identification of the subjects present, one subject was determined to
be wanted by the Mount Pleasant Police Department for an outstanding
arrest warrant. That subject was taken into custody and he was
transferred to the custody of a Mount Pleasant police officer.
January 27, 2006 At approximately 1 a.m., an
officer stopped a vehicle on Palm Boulevard near 22nd
Avenue for an equipment violation and while speaking with the driver
detected a strong odor of alcohol from within the vehicle. The driver
admitted to having had four beers. After failing several Field
Sobriety Tests, the driver was taken into custody where the Datamaster
Test indicated that medical attention should be given to the subject.
He was transported to the hospital to be tested for a blood glucose
check. He then refused to submit to a blood test and was charged with
DUI and transported to the detention center.
January 27, 2006 An officer stopped a vehicle for
having an expired license tag and while approaching the vehicle
observed several occupants attempting to hide items inside. The
officer detected strong odor of alcohol from within the vehicle and
then requested that all three occupants hand over their alcohol, which
was in plain view to the officer. All three occupants were charged
with Open Container and the driver with Expired Vehicle License.
January 28, 2006 After receiving a call with a
description of a female believed to be at that location and known to
be wanted, an officer responded to the residence to investigate. The
responding officer made contact with the person described and
determined that she was wanted by the Hanahan Police Department for
Grand Larceny. The warrant was confirmed and she was taken into
custody and turned over to the custody of a Hanahan police officer.
January 29, 2006 An officer stopped a vehicle on
Palm Boulevard near 39th Avenue for an equipment violation
and determined that the drivers license was suspended for failure to
pay a traffic ticket. After being taken into custody, he was then
found to be in possession of a quantity of marijuana. A passenger was
then determined to also have a quantity of marijuana on his person.
Both were charged with Simple Possession of Marijuana and the driver
also charged with DUS, and NRVC.
January 31, 2006 An officer stopped a vehicle for
speeding on Palm Boulevard near 7th Avenue and determined
that the female driver was unable to produce the proper paperwork for
the vehicle. She was then determined to have an outstanding arrest
warrant with the Summerville Police Department. She was taken into
custody and transferred to a Summerville police officer.
January 31, 2006 A Sullivan’s Island police
officer responded to an after hours alarm at their elementary school,
and found an open door. An Isle of Palms police officer responded to
assist the officer in clearing the building to insure that nothing was
out of place.

Services
January 4, 2006 Mr. Sammuel Carter was hired as
a Telecommunicator. He just relocated to the area and last worked as a
dispatcher for the Telfair/Wheeler 911 Authority in McCrae, Georgia.
January 6, 2006 Ptl. Sharon Baldrick graduated
from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy and was recognized as
a Distinguished Graduate due to her high average of proficiency with
all aspects of training, written and practical.
January 9, 2006 Ptl. Baldrick was recognized as
Employee of the Month for the month of January 2006 for her
performance during her training at the South Carolina Criminal Justice
Academy.
January 31, 2006 For the month of January,
officers on patrol discovered twelve businesses with open or unsecured
doors. A total of forty-three Victim of Crime Forms were issued to
business or property owners for various violations noted by officers
on patrol.

November 1, 2005 An officer
responded to a front beach parking lot regarding a suspicious vehicle.
The officer located the vehicle and observed a subject sleeping in the
driver’s seat, with numerous beer cans scattered around. The subject
was awakened and determined to be extremely unstable and incoherent.
He was taken into custody and charged with Public Intoxication.
November 3, 2005 An officer
stopped a vehicle on the connector that he observed operating at night
with only one headlight. While the officer was speaking to the driver,
he observed a quantity of marijuana in plain view. The driver was
charged with Simple Possession of Marijuana.
November 4, 2005 At approximately
2 A.M., an officer on patrol observed a vehicle make a wide turn on
21st
Avenue and drive over the sidewalk then continue down the street. The
officer followed the vehicle and observed a second wide turn being
negotiated onto Waterway Boulevard where he then stopped the vehicle
after it almost ran over a mailbox. When approached by the officer a
strong odor of alcohol was detected and a series of Field Sobriety
Tests were administered. The driver was taken to police headquarters
where she was then administered a Datamaster Test, where she
registered a .15% alcohol level. She was then transported to the
detention center and charged with DUI.
November 5, 2005 At approximately
2:30 A.M., an officer on patrol observed two suspicious vehicles quickly turn
onto 28th Avenue
then park on a cul-de-sac. When approached by the patrol vehicle, one
vehicle attempted to leave the area and was stopped. When the officer
approached the second vehicle on foot, he immediately observed a clear
plastic bag of white powder on the roof of that car. The officer took
immediate possession of the bag and detained all parties present. The
driver of the second vehicle admitted that he discarded the bag when
he saw the officer. He was taken into custody and charged with
Possession of Cocaine. All other parties were then allowed to leave.
November 5, 2005 Officers
responded to a residence on Cameron Boulevard where an anonymous
caller reported that persons present in that house were not supposed
to be there. An officer made contact with a suspect who stated that he
lived in the house, but his identification stated that he lived in
Sumter, S.C. That person was found to have twelve unpaid traffic
tickets and was taken into custody. After being taken into custody,
the subject was found to be in possession of a quantity of crack
cocaine. The subject was charged with NRVC x 12, and Possession of
Crack Cocaine, 3rd Offense
November 7, 2005 Officers
responded to a residence on Waterway Boulevard where a domestic
disturbance was reported by an out of state relative. The officers
determined that a heated dispute had occurred, but detected no visible
signs of injuries on either party.
November 9, 2005 Officers
responded to a medical assist call on Hartnett Boulevard, where a male
subject was reported to be unconscious. Fire department personnel
treated the subject who was in full arrest. The subject was
transported by EMS to East Cooper Hospital.
November 11, 2005 An officer responded to
a front beach restaurant that reported an intoxicated male subject who
refused to pay his bill. The subject then told the officer that he was
not going to pay, but did so after being advised of his options. After
being placed on Trespass Notice, the subject and his female companion
were determined to be too intoxicated to drive. Both parties were
taken into custody and charged with Public Intoxication.
November 11, 2005 At approximately 11:30
P.M., an officer on patrol stopped a vehicle on Palm Boulevard for
making an abrupt lane change and failing to use a directional signal.
The driver was issued a ticket, and while the officer was explaining
the citation, he detected an odor of alcohol from within the vehicle.
The driver admitted that he had been drinking alcohol at a party. The
officer made contact with the driver’s parents to take possession of
the vehicle. While waiting for the parents to arrive, the officer
located a bottle of Schnapps in the console, along with a quantity of
marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The vehicle was released to the
driver’s parents and the driver was charged with Careless Operation,
Minor in Possession of Liquor and Simple Possession of Marijuana.
November 12, 2005 At approximately 3:15
A.M., an officer stopped a vehicle on Palm Boulevard near 39th Avenue
for discarding litter from the vehicle. While speaking with the
driver, the officer detected a strong odor of alcohol from within the
vehicle. After failing several Field Sobriety Tests, the driver was
taken to police headquarters for a Datamaster Test, which was refused.
The driver was then transported to the detention center and charged
with DUI, and Littering.
November 12, 2005 At approximately 10:30
P.M., near the grounds of the Recreation center, a juvenile female was
assaulted by a juvenile male. The male subject reportedly jumped on
the female, pushing her to the ground twice, causing scratches and
bruises. The victim left the area with a friend and reported the
incident to her mother, who contacted police. The parents of the
suspect were extremely uncooperative and would not allow officers to
speak with their son. An Investigator later made contact with the
parents and the suspect was charged with Simple Assault as a juvenile,
which will be handled in Family Court.
November 14, 2005 After a plasma screen
television was reported stolen from a rental unit in Wild Dunes an
investigation was conducted which required that several employees with
access to the property be questioned. During the investigation, the
identity of the employee responsible was gained along with the
location of the stolen television. It was determined that the suspect
climbed a fence and entered the residence through a window, while
working as an evening maintenance man. An arrest warrant for the
suspect was obtained along with a search warrant for his residence. On
this date Investigators went to the suspects Ocean Boulevard apartment
to place him under arrest and while present observed the stolen
television in plain view at that location. The subject was charged
with Burglary 2nd degree and Petit Larceny.
November 14, 2005 A utility trailer with a
four wheel drive Polaris 325 Magnum utility vehicle was stolen from
the driveway of an Ocean Boulevard residence. The trailer and vehicle
are worth $8,000.
November 14, 2005 A 20’ Pace Utility
Trailer containing an unknown quantity of tools was reported stolen
from a jobsite on Hartnett Boulevard. The missing trailer and its
contents are reported to be worth $15,000.
November 15, 2005 A suspect wanted for a
September assault and motor vehicle theft from a residence on Waterway
Boulevard was featured by local television stations and the newspaper
by Crimestoppers on the weekend prior to this date. On this date, the
Summerville Police Department contacted this agency to advise that
they had the wanted suspect in custody as a result of a traffic stop.
An Isle of Palms officer immediately responded and took custody of the
subject. He was charged with Assault and Battery of a High and
Aggravated Nature, Grand Larceny of a Motor Vehicle, and Petit
Larceny.
November 15, 2005 An officer stopped a
vehicle near midnight for an improper lane change and while speaking
with the driver determined that he was in possession of a quantity of
marijuana. The driver was charged with Simple Possession of Marijuana.
November 17, 2005 An officer on patrol
stopped a vehicle on Palm Boulevard for an equipment violation and
while speaking with the female driver detected an odor of alcohol,
then observed an open bottle of beer in the rear floorboard, between
the feet of a rear passenger. The driver was seventeen years old and
charged with Underage Possession of Alcohol and the two juvenile
passengers were charged with the same offense, but their case will be
handled in Family Court. The two juveniles were released to the
custody of their parents.
November 20, 2005 An officer on patrol
stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation and after checking the
drivers record determined that he was wanted for Simple Assault by the
Mount Pleasant Police Department. The driver was charged with DUS for
a suspended license and was turned over to the custody of a Mount
Pleasant police officer.
November 21, 2005 An officer followed a
vehicle that was operating erratically on Waterway Boulevard. The
driver failed several Field Sobriety Tests given by the officer and
was transported to police headquarters for a Datamaster Test. A
quantity of marijuana was located in the console of the vehicle during
inventory prior to towing. The driver refused to submit to a breath
sample and was transported to the detention center, charged with DUI,
and Simple Possession of Marijuana.
November 22, 2005 A resident of Mount
Pleasant walked into police headquarters to report that her fourteen
year old daughter, who had been reported as a runaway, had been seen
riding in a golf cart in the area of 23rd Avenue and Hartnett
Boulevard. An officer was able to locate the girl and return her to
the custody of her mother.
November 23, 2005 An Isle of Palms
Investigator received information from an Investigator from Shallotte,
North Carolina who advised that he had a male subject under arrest who
was in possession of personal property belonging to two separate Isle
of Palms residents. Both residents were contacted and both thought
that their wallets were lost and never reported them missing. The
investigation revealed that both victims had their wallets stolen from
their vehicles while parked at the Island Center. The suspect admitted
to being on the Isle of Palms the previous week, and stated that
vehicles that he entered were all unlocked. The FBI is now
investigating the subject for identity theft and credit card fraud,
due to thefts in Charleston, Isle of Palms, Myrtle Beach, and in North
Carolina.
November 26, 2005 Just after midnight, an
officer on patrol stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation and
while speaking with the driver, detected an odor of alcohol from
within the vehicle. A passenger was found to be in possession of an
open beer and the driver in possession of a flask containing liquor.
The driver was charged with Unlawful Transport of Legal Liquor and the
passenger with Open Container in Vehicle.
November 26, 2005 A Sullivan’s Island
officer requested assistance at a domestic dispute on Middle Street.
Upon arrival the officers observed broken glass on the floor and
household items scattered throughout the house. The dispute was
between parents and their eighteen-year-old intoxicated son. The
intoxicated subject then went through a window and out onto a second
story roof, where he threatened to commit suicide. A second Isle of
Palms officer arrived and was able to distract the subject enough for
the two officers inside to grab the subject and pull him back into the
residence. The subject was transported to the hospital after being
taken into Emergency Protective Custody.
November 27, 2005 An officer responded to
a residence on Ocean Boulevard, where a suspicious vehicle was
reported. Before the officer arrived the vehicle left the area, but
was located on Palm Boulevard near 8th Avenue. While speaking with the
driver, the officer detected a strong odor of alcohol and vomit from
within the vehicle. The driver was unable to complete any Field
Sobriety Tests administered and was taken into custody. The driver was
given a Datamaster Test at police headquarters and registered a .09%
alcohol level. He was charged with DUI and transported to the
detention center.
November 27, 2005 An officer responded to
Ocean Park where a citizen reported a suspicious male subject
attempting to break in to a vehicle. The subject was located in a
parking lot on 21st Avenue and appeared to be under the influence of
alcohol or drugs. While in custody, the subject appeared to swallow an
unknown substance, which was determined to be crack cocaine. The
subject was transported to the County Hospital to have his stomach
pumped. Once the subject was cleared for incarceration by the
hospital, he was transported to the detention center and charged with
Disorderly Conduct.
November 28, 2005 At approximately 1:30
A.M., an officer on patrol observed a vehicle moving slowly on Palm
Boulevard near 21st Avenue, then pull into a parking lot on 21st
Avenue when he saw the police vehicle approaching. When approached,
the driver jumped out of the vehicle and opened the hood to indicate
engine trouble. The officer detected a strong odor of alcohol and
observed a female passenger in an obvious intoxicated state. The
driver failed several Field Sobriety Tests given and later submitted
to a Datamaster Test, where he registered a .09% alcohol level. The
driver was charged with DUI and the passenger was able to call a
friend for a ride to her home.
November 30, 2005 An officer on patrol in
Wild Dunes stopped a vehicle for a stop sign violation and while
checking the drivers record determined that he was wanted for Motor
Vehicle Theft in Columbus, Georgia. The Columbus Police Department
agreed to extradite the subject and he was taken into custody and
transported to the detention center for extradition.

November 2, 2005 PFC Jimenez and PFC
Ambas were nominated for and jointly received the Employee of the
Month Award for the month of October for their actions on October 29,
2005, where they made entry to a residence occupied by a suicidal
female armed with a shotgun. She was taken into protective custody
without injury to anyone.
November 15, 2005 PFC Gebhardt was awarded
the Exchange Club Police Officer of the Year Award. He was recognized
for his professionalism, actions, productivity, and high number of
narcotics arrests and seizures for 2005. The award was given at the
Exchange Club monthly dinner meeting.
November 15, 2005 Animal Control Officer
Vicki Cook was nominated for and received the Employee of the Month
Award for the month of November. ACO Cook took it upon herself to
clean up an area of marsh that was littered with unsightly garbage at
Palm Boulevard and 6th Avenue.
November 28, 2005 PFC Gebhardt attended
Career Day at St. Stephens Elementary School, where his wife is a
Special Education teacher. He spoke to approximately 150 students and
emphasized the importance of education in the law enforcement field.
November 30, 2005 For the month of
November, officers on patrol discovered six businesses and one home
with open or unsecured doors. A total of thirteen Victim of Crime
Forms were issued to business or property owners for various
violations noted by officers on patrol.
October 1, 2005 At approximately 1:45 A.M.,
officers responded to a reported fight in progress at a front beach
establishment. Upon the officer’s arrival, employees of the business
were engaged with several unruly and intoxicated patrons, who had been
asked to leave. One officer immediately placed the main instigator
under arrest and attempted to remove him from the building. Two other
officers, assisted by an employee took two more male subjects into
custody and while the officers were removing these subjects, a female
relative of two arrested subjects refused to follow instructions to
back away and actually interfered with the arrest of a subject, which
resulted in her assault to an officer. She too was taken into custody,
but released on scene after being charged with Assault on a Police
Officer. She was released in order to care for an infant child at
home. The three male subjects were each charged with Disorderly
Conduct, Resisting Arrest, and one with the additional charge of
Assault on a Police Officer. All four subjects plead guilty in
Municipal Court.
October 1, 2005 At approximately 3:25 A.M.,
an officer on patrol clocked a vehicle on radar, traveling 67 miles
per hour in a 35 zone, in the area of Palm Boulevard and 11th
Avenue. When the officer turned to attempt to stop the vehicle, the
vehicle tried to elude the officer by speeding through residential
streets making quick turns, then re-entering Palm Boulevard traveling
back toward Sullivan’s Island. The vehicle was stopped near Breach
Inlet and the driver was taken into custody and charged with Reckless
Driving.
October 1, 2005 An officer that had been out
on the shoulder of the connector with a Mount Pleasant officer
investigating an intoxicated pedestrian, left the scene just a minute
before the unoccupied Mount Pleasant Police vehicle was rear ended by
a Ford Mustang. The Mustang was wedged under the rear end of the
police vehicle, trapping the three occupants. The police officer and
pedestrian were shaken up, but had no injuries. As a result, the
connector was closed to all traffic for approximately one hour, while
the emergency personnel removed the entrapped passengers and cleaned
up the roadway. The South Carolina Highway Patrol investigated the
accident and charged the driver of the Mustang.
October
1, 2005 While investigating a series of auto
break-ins on Sullivan’s Island, that police agency was able to obtain
video surveillance footage of the suspects using a stolen credit card
at a Mount Pleasant grocery store. The video was aired on the evening
news and telephone tips resulted in both suspects being identified. As
a result, both suspects turned themselves in to the Sullivan’s Island
Police Department. Investigators from Sullivan’s Island and Isle of
Palms interviewed both suspects, who were now both under arrest for
the Sullivan’s Island auto break-ins. As a result of the interviews,
the Isle of Police Department charged one suspect with an October 2004
auto break-in near Breach Inlet. That subject was charged with
Breaking Into a Motor Vehicle, Petit Larceny, and Financial
Transaction Card Theft. Multiple charges are pending for the second
subject who is fully cooperating with this agency. As a result of
these arrests, at least twenty-three vehicle break-ins on the Isle of
Palms dating back to the summer of 2004 have been cleared.
October
3, 2005 At approximately 1 A.M., an officer
on patrol stopped a vehicle on Palm Boulevard for an equipment
violation. While speaking with the driver, the officer observed fresh
blood on the door and on the drivers arm. The driver explained that he
had just left a residence on Chapman Drive, where he had just
attempted to break up a fight between brothers who were described as
out of control at their residence. The subject showed the officer the
residence and was allowed to proceed home. Officers investigating the
residence on Chapman Drive, and observed fresh blood on the front door
and were able to gain entry by a female who allowed them in. The
female stated that two brothers had been fighting, but were now
separated in two different rooms. Due to the fact that the entire
interior of the home appeared to be in total disarray, with broken
furniture and blood on almost every visible surface, the officers
checked on the well being of the brothers. One brother was found to
have an outstanding Arrest Warrant with the Mount Pleasant Police
Department for Possession of Marijuana. That same brother was found to
again be in possession of marijuana and was taken into custody.
Neither brother wished to prosecute each other for the assault. The
wanted subject was removed from the residence and charged with Simple
Possession of Marijuana and turned over to Mount Pleasant Police at
the hospital, for treatment as a result of the fight.
October 3, 2005 An officer stopped a
pedestrian on Waterway Boulevard near Forest Trail because he
resembled a suspect wanted in a recent incident nearby. The subject
was unable to provide identification then gave the officer false
information to avoid being properly identified. Once positive
identification was made, the subject was taken into custody and
charged with False Information to a Police Officer. The subject gave
false information because he thought he was wanted.
October 7, 2005 After stopping a vehicle on 38th
Avenue at Palm Boulevard for an equipment violation, the officer made
the determination that a passenger in the vehicle was wanted by the
Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, for Failure to Pay Child Support.
The passenger was placed under arrest and transported to North
Charleston and turned over to a Berkeley County Deputy.
October 13, 2005 An officer responded to a
residence on Intercoastal Court regarding a reported natural death at
that location. An Investigator responded and confirmed that the
elderly female died as a result of complications from a long illness.
The Investigator coordinated arrangements with the Coroners Office who
concurred that the death was natural.
October 15, 2005 Just after midnight, an officer
on patrol observed a vehicle driving erratically on Palm Boulevard.
After tracking the vehicle on videotape, the vehicle was stopped on
Waterway Boulevard near 23rd Avenue. After failing a series
of Field Sobriety Tests, the driver was taken into custody and
administered a Datamaster Test. The driver refused to take the test or
to sign paperwork. He was charged with DUI and transported to the
detention center.
October 15, 2005 At approximately 2 A.M., a witness
to a hit and run accident in Mount Pleasant followed the suspect
vehicle to a residence on 50th Avenue. An officer responded
and met with the witness who in turn contacted the Mount Pleasant
Police Department requesting that one of their officers respond to
investigate the matter.
October 16, 2005 An officer stopped a pedestrian
on Pavilion Drive to advise him regarding an alcohol violation. While
speaking with the subject, the officer determined that he was also in
possession of a quantity of marijuana. The subject was given a warning
for the alcohol violation and charged with Simple Possession of
Marijuana.
October 20, 2005 Two officers went to a residence
on Hartnett Boulevard to serve a Bench Warrant on a subject known to
reside at that location. An unknown male subject was heard in the
house yelling the name of the wanted suspect, prior to answering the
door. That subject was not a resident and denied knowledge that the
wanted subject was present. He then allowed the officers to enter to
attempt to locate the wanted subject. The subject was found hiding
under a pile of blankets in the same room that the other non-resident
had been sleeping. The officers observed a quantity of marijuana and
white powder in the room that both subjects had been occupying. Both
were taken into custody and charged with Possession of Cocaine, and
Simple Possession of Marijuana. The non-resident had an additional
charge of False Information to a Law Enforcement Officer. The wanted
subject was served with his Bench Warrant, which was for a mandatory
90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.
October 28, 2005 A concerned citizen advised an
officer that a subject that frequented the marina was wanted by the
Charleston County Sheriff’s Office. The officer made contact with
their warrants office, who confirmed an outstanding arrest warrant for
the subject in question. The suspect was then located by officers at a
dock on Waterway Island Drive and taken into custody. The suspect was
turned over to a deputy at the Charleston County Detention Center.
October 28, 2005 Officers responded to a residence
on Cameron Boulevard where an in progress domestic situation had been
reported. Upon arrival, the officers met the male half of the
situation who advised them of his spouse’s behavior. It was determined
that the female was the aggressor and was also responsible for the
damage in the residence. She was taken into custody, and transported
to the detention center and charged with Criminal Domestic Violence.
October 28, 2005 An officer stopped a vehicle on
the connector, and while speaking with the driver, a passenger became
belligerent and unruly, and when she exited the vehicle, fell to the
ground. It was determined that the passenger was grossly intoxicated.
While speaking to the driver, outside if the vehicle, the intoxicated
subject, who had been placed back in the vehicle, jumped behind the
steering wheel and attempted to drive away. The passenger was then
taken into custody and charged with Public Intoxication and Disorderly
Conduct.
October 29, 2005 An officer stopped a vehicle for
following too close to the vehicle in front of it on Palm Boulevard.
While speaking with the driver, the officer detected a strong odor of
alcohol from within the vehicle. The officer observed an open can of
beer in the vehicle and took the driver into custody. A quantity of
marijuana was also located in the vehicle. The driver was charged with
Open Container, and Simple Possession of Marijuana.
October 29, 2005 Officers responded to a residence
on Twin Oaks Lane, where a spouse reported that his wife had
threatened to commit suicide while they were speaking on the
telephone. Responding officers observed the female in question,
sitting at a table in the residence speaking on the telephone, with a
shotgun in her lap. When the officers observed the female place the
shotgun against the wall, they made immediate entry and placed the
female into Emergency Protective Custody. She was transported to the
Charleston County Hospital for voluntary psychiatric evaluation. All
weapons in the residence were taken into custody for safekeeping.

October 12, 2005 Chief Buckhannon received a letter
of appreciation from the Sheriff of Jackson County, Mississippi
thanking him for sending officers to their aid after Hurricane
Katrina. He thanked the officers for their manpower and moral support.
October 13-16, 2005 Chief Buckhannon attended the annual
South Carolina Police Chief’s Association Leadership Conference held
in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
October 17, 2005 Chief Buckhannon received a letter
of appreciation from the President of Marine Corps Disaster Relief
Unit 1, thanking our officers for their professionalism in providing
security for their unit while they were deployed in Mississippi after
Hurricane Katrina.
October 26, 2005 Detectives Caldwell and Meekins
conducted a Halloween Safety Lecture to the children of the St. Marks
Lutheran Church Daycare Center.
October 31, 2005 For the month of October, officers
on patrol discovered five businesses and one home with open or

1, 2005 At approximately 1 A.M., an officer stopped
a vehicle on the connector for speeding, and while speaking with the
driver, it was determined that he was in possession of a quantity of
marijuana. The driver was given a warning for speeding and charged
with Simple Possession of Marijuana.
September 2, 2005 After stopping a vehicle on Ocean
Boulevard for having only one headlight in the dark, the officer
determined that the driver was in possession of open liquor. The
driver was charged with Illegal Transport of Legal Liquor.
September 3, 2005 At approximately 3:30 A.M., an
officer on patrol on the connector stopped a vehicle that was
traveling 75 mph, and crossing over the center double lines median of
the roadway. After failing several Field Sobriety Tests, the driver
was taken into custody and administered a Datamaster Test, where she
registered a .16% alcohol level. The driver was charged with DUI.
September 3, 2005 At approximately 4 A.M., an
officer out with the previously mentioned traffic stop, observed a
vehicle accelerating from Palm Boulevard onto the connector to a point
where the vehicle was sliding off of the road and into the concrete
curb. When this vehicle was stopped the officer immediately detected a
strong odor of alcohol from within the vehicle. After failing several
Field Sobriety Tests, the driver was administered a Datamaster Test
where he registered a .21% alcohol level. The driver was charged with
DUI.
September 4, 2005 At approximately 1 A.M., an
officer on patrol observed a suspicious vehicle making evasive moves
to keep the patrol vehicle from getting behind that vehicle to better
observe the drivers actions. Once the vehicle was stopped the officer
immediately detected an odor of alcohol from within the vehicle. A
passenger appeared to be grossly intoxicated and the driver failed
several Field Sobriety Tests. The driver was then administered a
Datamaster Test where she registered a .01% alcohol level. It was
apparent that the driver was under the influence of some other
substance other than alcohol and was charged with DUI.
September 4, 2005 At approximately 3 A.M., officers
responded to an Carolina Boulevard residence for a complaint of loud
noise. Upon arrival, several female subjects were observed yelling in
the front yard. The officers observed them to be in possession of beer
and they also appeared to be underage. A male subject at the residence
was determined to have provided the beer to his three underage female
friends and was charged with Transfer of Beer to a Minor. The three
minors were charged with Minor in Possession of Alcohol.
September 4, 2005 The Sullivan’s Island Police
Department requested assistance to respond to a domestic violence call
on Myrtle Avenue. After assisting, our officers returned to resume
patrol.
September 5, 2005 At approximately 3 A.M., officers
investigated a vehicle horn blowing continuously from the area of
Dunes Boulevard. When the vehicle was located and checked, an
intoxicated female subject appeared and stated that she had fallen
asleep in the car and had accidentally activated the horn. A neighbor
stated that the horn had been blowing off and on for over an hour. The
subject refused to cooperate and was taken into custody and charged
with Disorderly Conduct.
September 5, 2005 Officers responded to the Mount
Pleasant side of the connector to assist Mount Pleasant Police with an
accident involving an overturned vehicle. Officers assisted with
traffic control while a Medicare helicopter landed to transport the
injured driver.
September 5, 2005 Officers responded to the beach
area near Breach Inlet where a male subject was found deceased. Lt.
Wright responded to conduct the investigation and determined that the
30year -old male subject had left two suspicious notes for his spouse
then traveled to the beach and committed suicide. A Deputy Coroner
also responded and rules the death a suicide.
September 8, 2005 At approximately 3:20 A.M., an
officer responded to a possible fight in progress at a JC Long
Boulevard establishment. Upon the officer’s arrival, they observed a
pickup truck attempting to leave the area. When two police vehicles
attempted to block that vehicle from leaving the area, the driver of
that vehicle attempted to flee by turning down Pavilion Boulevard and
into the parking area behind other businesses, where a large tree and
other hazards in the area blocked the vehicle from going any further.
Both occupants were removed from the vehicle where it was determined
that both had been advised by management to leave, due to their
intoxicated state. While in the process of leaving, both subjects
began pushing and cursing other patrons. It was also determined that
one subject shoplifted some retail items while exiting. The driver was
charged with Failure to Stop for Blue Lights and Siren, DUS 2nd,
NRVC x 2 and Petit Larceny. The passenger was charged with Public
Intoxication.
September 8, 2005 An officer on foot patrol on the
front beach observed a couple walking who appeared to be extremely
intoxicated, both were attempting to walk, but kept falling down. Due
to the condition of both subjects and their inability to safely leave
the area, both were taken into custody and charged with Public
Intoxication.
September 9, 2005 An officer responded to a
residence on Cameron Boulevard where a male subject reported that his
girlfriend had attempted suicide by consuming a large amount of
prescription medication along with beer and vodka. The subject stated
that his girlfriend had passed out and he was unable to awaken her.
The girlfriend was revived and transported by EMS for a mental
evaluation.
September 9, 2005 At approximately 3 A.M., an
officer stopped on 29th Avenue to investigate numerous
people in the street standing near several vehicles. One vehicle
started to drive away, but stopped when the officer approached on
foot. The officer determined that the driver’s license of the car
stopped was suspended. After failing several Field Sobriety Tests, the
driver was transported to police headquarters where he refused a
Datamaster Test. He was charged with DUS, DUI and Minor in Possession
of Beer. A passenger in the vehicle was charged with Public
Intoxication.
September 11, 2005 A resident of Carolina Boulevard
reported two handguns stolen from his residence and suspected the
twenty-four year old boyfriend of his daughter. Several days later,
the same resident discovered that several checks from his checking
account has been returned by his bank, and had apparently been forged
by the same suspect. An Investigator was assigned the case and was
able to develop a witness to the theft of the weapons. Arrest warrants
were immediately obtained and placed in the NCIC computer base.
Several days later, the resident called to report that he thought the
suspect was in or near his house again. A search of the area resulted
in the suspect being located in a nearby yard and taken into custody.
He was charged with Forgery 3 counts, Petit Larceny and Possession of
a Weapon by a Convicted Felon.
September 15, 2005 The Animal Control Officer
responded to a sick raccoon, possibly rabid, on the 5000 block of Palm
Boulevard, and while handling the animal, came into direct skin
contact with bodily fluid. The raccoon was tested and confirmed to be
rabid. As a result of the earlier contact, the Animal Control Officer
was required to undergo a series of rabies shots, provided for by DHEC.
September 16, 2005 At the request of the Corporate
Security Office of Kangaroo Express, an officer responded to the local
store to confront a female employee accused of stealing merchandise by
way of giving gas and food items to family members and taking refunds
on existing inventory. The suspect admitted to less than $1,000 worth
of thefts, but store inventory indicates more than $8,000 worth of
shortages. The suspect was terminated and taken into custody for her
admitted theft of less than $1,000 and charged with Breach of Trust.
An Investigator was assigned the case for follow-up and possible more
additional charges.
September 17, 2005 At approximately 1 A.M., an
officer responded to the area of Sandshell Court for people reported
to be shooting fireworks on the beach. The officer observed several
people on a beach path near 46th Avenue and observed them
getting into a vehicle and drive away. When the officer stopped the
vehicle, he immediately detected a strong odor of alcohol from within
the vehicle. After failing several Field Sobriety Tests, the driver
was administered a Datamaster Test, which registered a .07% alcohol
content. The driver was charged with DUI.
September 17, 2005 An officer responded to Gate 1 of
Wild Dunes where a security officer reported a female needing medical
attention. The female complained that her back hurt due to an abrasion
on her lower back. When the subject was unable to give a reasonable
explanation of how she ended up in Wild Dunes and how she received her
injury, she was found to be in possession of a quantity of crack
cocaine. The subject was taken into custody and immediately taken to
Roper Hospital for treatment to be cleared for transfer to the
detention center. She was charged with Possession of Crack Cocaine.
September 18, 2005 The Sullivan’s Island Police
Department requested that an officer respond to Jasper Boulevard to
assist them in a natural death call at that location.
September 19, 2005 A representative of the Wild Dunes
Community Association reported major damage to a bridge leading into
Seagrass Lane. A witness reported that the subject responsible struck
the bridge causing approximately $3,000 damage. The investigating
officer located the vehicle responsible and identified the driver as
the teenage son of a Seagrass Lane resident. That homeowner agreed to
take responsibility for repairs to the bridge.
September 23, 2005 A resident of Ocean Boulevard
reported loud noises coming from the beach area behind her residence.
The responding officer heard someone yell “cops” and approximately
forty teenagers attempted to leave the area on foot. A total of six
persons were detained, three adults and three juveniles. The group,
all from Wando High School had come to the beach with a keg of beer,
which they buried in a trash can in the sand. The three adults were
charged with Underage Possession of Alcohol. The three juveniles were
also charged, but referred to Family Court.
September 24, 2005 An officer was requested to meet a
security officer at Gate 1 of Wild Dunes where the officer reported
that a resident had deliberately run over traffic cones blocking an
entry lane. The guard stated that when she followed the couple to
their Beachwood West residence, the female passenger assaulted her in
the driveway of their home. The guard also reported that the passenger
yelled derogatory racial slurs directly at her. When the responding
police officer went to the residence to investigate the complaint, the
male resident refused to allow the officer to speak with his wife.
This case has been assigned to an Investigator for follow-up.
September 27, 2005 Just after midnight, an officer on
patrol observed two subjects on Recreation Center property sitting on
playground equipment. The officer approached the subjects on foot to
advise them that the park was closed and made the determination that
one of the females was wanted by the Dorchester County Sheriff’s
Office. That subject was taken into custody and later turned over to a
Dorchester County Deputy for processing.
September 27, 2005 A female resident of Waterway
Boulevard reported that she had been assaulted by a house guest. The
officer determined that after the woman was assaulted, she passed out
and when she woke up saw that the suspect had stolen her car keys and
some prescription medication and left the residence in her vehicle.
The damaged vehicle was recovered abandoned downtown and processed by
the Charleston Police Department Crime Lab. An Investigator was able
to obtain positive identification of the suspect and he is currently
wanted for Grand Larceny of a Motor Vehicle, Assault and Battery High
and Aggravated and Petit Larceny.
September 27, 2005 An officer on patrol stopped a
vehicle for an equipment violation on Palm Boulevard and while
speaking with the driver determined that he had an open container of
beer in his possession. A computer check of the driver indicated a
suspended drivers license and an outstanding arrest warrant by the
South Carolina Department of Probation and Parole for a weapons
violation. He was taken into custody and charged with DUS 3rd
Offense, and for the Probation Violation.
September 28, 2005 At approximately 1:30 A.M., an
officer on foot patrol on Ocean Boulevard and JC long Boulevard
recognized a male subject from a previously reported theft from a
local business. The officer detained the subject and made contact with
the victim of the theft who came to their location and positively
identified the subject. The subject refused to provide his proper name
and was taken into custody and charged with Hindering, and Defrauding
an Innkeeper. It was later determined that this subject had failed to
appear at municipal court the previous week, where seven Bench
Warrants had been issued for Failure to Appear.

September 17, 2005 The Isle of Palms Police
Department participated n the Annual Law Enforcement day at Citadel
Mall, which was attended by over 20,000 people. Four patrol officers
and one Telecommunicator participated in the display.
September 25, 2005 Corporal Usry and Ptl. McCrodden
received a letter of appreciation from a grateful parent who wished to
recognize them for their professionalism and caring in dealing with
her bi-polar daughter.
September 30,
2005 For the month of September, officers on patrol
discovered fifteen businesses and two homes with open or unsecured
doors. A total of twenty-three Victim of Crime Forms were issued to
business or property owners for various violations noted by officers
on patrol.

June 4, 2005 At approximately 5 AM, officers
responded to the beach behind Sea Cabins, where a female was reported
to be screaming. The subject was located lying in the sand dunes, and
was determined to be grossly intoxicated. She was taken into custody
and charged with Public Intoxication.
June 6,
2005 At approximately 2:30 AM, an officer stopped a
pickup truck for an equipment violation and immediately detected a
strong odor of alcohol from within the vehicle while speaking to the
driver. A quantity of beer was located in the truck and the driver who
was a fifteen year old juvenile was released to the custody of his
father. He was charged with Minor In Possession of Beer, Open
Container and False Information to Police, which will be handled in
Family Court.
June 6,
2005 An officer met with a City of Charleston police
officer to serve an arrest warrant on a female employee of a local
business. The subject was located and taken into custody without
incident.
June 7,
2005 An officer on foot patrol of the front beach
observed several individuals on the sidewalk with containers of
alcohol. After issuing a verbal warning about the alcohol violations,
the officer observed one of the subjects urinating on the ground. That
subject was taken into custody and charged with Disorderly Conduct.
June 9,
2005 An officer stopped a vehicle on Palm Boulevard
near 28th Avenue for a license plate violation. The driver
who was operating with a suspended license, was taken into custody. A
passenger in the vehicle gave the officer a bogus name and was also
taken into custody for an outstanding arrest warrant through South
Carolina Probation and Parole. The driver was charged with DUS 2nd
Offense, and the passenger with False Information to Police, and for
the outstanding arrest warrant.
June 10,
2005 An officer responded to the Boardwalk Inn at Wild
Dunes regarding a reported drunk driver in a white SUV. A second
caller reported the vehicle to now be at another location. The vehicle
was located and stopped near
Dune Ridge Lane.
After failing several Field Sobriety Tests, the driver was taken into
custody. He later submitted to a Datamaster Test and registered a .18%
blood alcohol level and charged with DUI.
June 10,
2005 An officer responded to a front beach business who
reported a shoplifter in custody. The officer determined that the
suspect was a fifteen-year-old juvenile from the Columbia, SC area,
who had concealed $56 worth of merchandise. She was taken into police
custody and later released to a guardian. Her charge of Shoplifting
will be handled in Family Court.
June 11,
2005 An officer on patrol observed a suspicious vehicle
parked in the driveway of a house under construction on Ocean
Boulevard. The officer investigated and found the vehicle to be
occupied by a male and female subject that appeared to be nervously
attempting to conceal something. The female was determined to be a
missing person from North Carolina. A quantity of crack cocaine and
other drug paraphernalia was located in the vehicle resulting in the
arrest of both parties. Both were charged with Possession of Crack.
June 12,
2005 At approximately 2 AM, officers responded to a
condominium unit in Wild Dunes for a reported domestic abuse
situation. Upon the officer’s arrival, they observed the female half
of the incident outside and naked. She was immediately escorted inside
and instructed to get dressed. The officer’s investigation and
injuries to the husband resulted in the determination that the female
had been the primary aggressor in the incident. She was taken into
custody and charged with Criminal Domestic Violence.
June 12,
2005 An officer stopped a vehicle on the 5800 block of
Palm Boulevard for speeding and immediately detected a strong odor of
alcohol from within the vehicle while speaking to the driver. After
failing several Field Sobriety Tests, the driver was administered a
Datamaster Test where he was found to have a blood alcohol level of
.10% and charged with DUI.
